Project Overview

I designed the website fred.info to provide citizens in the Rhine region with fast and intuitive access to German and French services. I developed the identity, incorporating handmade illustrations and a vibrant visual language, collaborating with Baden-Württemberg, Grand Est, dfi and Hochschule Kehl. Integrating the colors of both nations’ flags into the animated logo and visuals emphasised the cross-border connection and the diverse audience it serves.

Challenge & Approach

The main challenge was to design a platform that seamlessly serves both German- and French-speaking users while unifying six distinct service categories within a single, cohesive interface. Through close collaboration with the project partners, I defined the core values and translated them into a clear, approachable design system.

A key focus was the interactive and artistic homepage: six illustrated headlines invite exploration, and subtle hover effects reveal the German and French national flags—symbolizing collaboration and cultural connection. The combination of engaging visuals, handcrafted illustrations, and intuitive structure creates a distinctive experience that makes cross-border information accessible, friendly, and visually engaging.

Logo Development

Developing the logo required finding a name and visual identity that would resonate equally in Germany and France—memorable, culturally inclusive, and easy to understand. Several naming concepts were explored and refined through interviews and feedback sessions with project partners. The result is a wordmark that symbolizes connection rather than division, representing the cross-border region as one unified network.

Logo Symbolism

The final logo combines elements of the German and French flags in bright, vibrant colors alongside the country abbreviations. Depending on the language setting, either the German or French title is emphasized, visually balancing both cultures. The design reflects the essence of the platform itself: A shared space created for citizens from France and Germany, symbolizing connection, cooperation, and accessibility across borders.
